Dealing with big differences in our English classes

All classes have students with different strengths and weaknesses and sometimes those differences can be enormous. In our English classes we can have students who come from families where English is the first language and possibly in the same class students who are new to both English and Dutch. We also need to remember the rest of the students whose needs we need to accommodate.

What can we do? Can we satisfy the needs of all these different types of students in the limited time that we have?

In this online workshop we’ll look at ideas and activities to help make our classes easier for us as teachers and, most importantly, beneficial to each and every student in the class.

Simon Pearlman has been involved in English language teaching since 1997 and has worked in the UK, Turkey, Costa Rica and has made Cádiz, Spain his permanent home. He is a teacher and a trainer who always tries to base training around the realities of the classroom, whether supporting teachers on pre-service training on the Trinity CertTESOL course or in-service running long-term teacher development programmes and short courses for EarlyBird. He is passionate about DEI (diversity, equity and inclusivity) and believes that education should be equally accessible to all.
