Extra information for those wishing to make an Open Application for the position of:

(NEAR) NATIVE SPEAKER OF ENGLISH WITH PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHING QUALIFICATIONS

EarlyBird invites qualified primary teachers with an excellent command of English both in the greater Rotterdam area but also throughout the rest of the country to submit an open application.

EarlyBird is a Rotterdam based innovative project introducing early and enhanced English in primary education. The EarlyBird network consists of nearly 100 primary schools (teaching 4 to 12 year olds) throughout the country. Over the years EarlyBird has grown from supervising a local project to a nationally operating centre of expertise.

EarlyBird teachers are closely involved in the further development of the project. As the most comprehensive programme for English in primary education EarlyBird attracts considerable attention. EarlyBird works with partners in and outside Rotterdam in areas such as curriculum development and the development of resources, scientific research and training. EarlyBird also aims to be at the forefront of know-how in the development of Early English in The Netherlands. It is expected that the project will continue to expand.

Applicants may apply for a full-time or part-time position as a subject teacher to different classes. Preference will be given to qualified teachers with experience in teaching English as a second language. TEFL/TESL or equivalent certificates do not count as primary teaching qualifications. Candidates will be expected to contribute to the development of the ‘early and enhanced English’ teaching programme and to curriculum development.

Since close co-operation with the Dutch-speaking staff is essential, a command of Dutch (or the willingness to learn Dutch) would be appreciated, as well as digital skills.

EarlyBird offers excellent opportunities for teachers interested in being part of a unique and challenging project. There is considerable scope for future professional development. We have a support system for both teachers and schools and close co-operation with partners in the Netherlands and abroad.

EarlyBird prefers recognition of foreign teaching qualifications to have been completed before applying (see links below), but will also consider EU nationals who have not yet taken this step.

On completion of a contract a statement of good behaviour will be required.

Non-EU citizens must keep in mind that work permits are very hard to obtain in the Netherlands. US and Canadian teachers must obtain residence permits and work visas for this country.
